Why Does the Full Moon Play Havoc with My Sleep?

First take a deep breath in through your nose and then exhale out your mouth, so you make a “whoosh” sound.

Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose  and count to four.

Now hold your breath and count to seven.

After this time has elapsed, exhale completely through your mouth, making another whoosh sound for eight seconds in one large breath.

Now inhale silently again and repeat the cycle three times for a total of four breaths.

The technique is based on pranayama, an ancient Indian practice that means ‘regulation of breath.’

As well as relaxing the parasympathetic nervous system, this 4-7-8 pattern helps you feel connected to your body and distracts you from everyday thoughts that can disrupt sleep. It can also help anxiety.
