How to grow and step out of your comfort zone

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all my Irish friends.  St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, and probably one of the most widely celebrated saint’s day in the world.

Many people wear something green on St Patrick ’s Day that has become known by many as the wearing of the green to celebrate their Irish heritage. Colour conveys powerful messages and colour affects us all physically, mentally and emotionally.

When a person wears the colour green, it gives them a certain air of –

harmony

empathy

reassurance

approachable

trust

restful energy

And thinking of green, brings me back to nature, because this week is all about growth.

Are you enjoying the crocuses, daffodils and narcissus blooming in beautiful Spring sunshine?

We too are being nudged to ‘grow’, to improve our knowledge and at times to step outside of our comfort zones.

Personally, on a daily basis, pushing my comfort zone means I’m waking up at 6am and drinking a cup of hot water with lemon then meditating before walking my dogs for an hour everyday. Staying within my comfort zone could mean, staying in bed and hitting the snooze button!

So what does it mean to you?

On an overall goal basis, staying within the comfort zone could mean –

  1. staying in a job that is no longer giving you new challenges

  2. moving outside it could mean quitting your job and building a new career

  3. OR staying in a relationship that is unfulfilling

  4. moving on could mean learning to live on your own or starting a new relationship.

Ask yourself

“What happens when I stay inside my comfort zone?”

  1. Routine

  2. Security

  3. Warmth/comfort

“What happens when I push myself outside my comfort zone?”

  1. Embrace change

  2. Achieve goals

  3. Try new things

So what you can do this week is

  1. Do everyday things differently. For example, take a different route to work

  2. Resist knee-jerk decisions.  Give yourself time to consider options

  3. Trust yourself

Are you feeling a heightened desire to succeed and do you believe that through sheer willpower and positivism things can change for the better?

Just remember that it’s very important not to push so hard that you trample over the feelings of others, in your desire to get ahead of to achieve your goals.

Light is at the end of the tunnel as we are at an end of a period of reflection.  So prepare yourself for some fabulous new starts as the Spring Equinox is on Monday 20th March and the days will become longer.

Some of you may be feeling drained right now, so take care of yourself and rest.  Get in touch with your inner desires.  Perhaps you desire for life’s more pleasurable pursuits, material goodies, and also greater intimacy in love relationships?

It’s important to stay tuned to our sixth senses and learn to trust the answers within yourself.
